My notebook (Acer Aspire 4710) has problems with shutdown and restart process. When I uninstalled Crystal Eye driver from device manager, shutdown problem was solved and I can shutdown my Acer notebook smoothly.
I called PNY Tech Support and told them what happened and they advised me to Update my BIOS which was originally at P01-A1 dated 9/23/2011. Inside you will find a folder called Win Tool, choose 32 or 64-bit as per your Windows version.
The laptop has been hooked to an external monitor for the past 4 months.
Shut it down Sunday night and it booted to a blank screen Monday morning.

BIOS update from Acer says if Hi, when you said it boots, do you have all the lights and sound, you can try an external monitor, check your RAM also, take out the battery and unplug the adapter, take out the RAM and put it back.
